General questions
We operate swimming lessons all-year round, breaking only over the Easter weekend (Friday to Monday) and for two weeks at Christmas. We always let anyone affected by closures know in plenty of time.
All our swimming teachers hold either a Swim England SEQ Level 2, or an Award in Teaching Swimming or Certificate in Teaching Swimming from the STA. They will also hold an NPLQ or NRASTC award.
Children’s lessons
A qualified teacher will always be in the pool for the following lessons:
- Adult & child lessons (for 2 to 3-year-olds)
- Preschool lessons (for 3 to 4-year-olds)
- Children’s lessons (grades 1 and 2)
Yes, all children should be accompanied by a parent or carer who must stay at the venue for the duration of the lesson.
Swimming lessons are charged via direct debit and paid via your secure Swimphony account, which you’ll set up when you sign up for lessons. Your initial payment will be pro rata based on how many weeks there are left of the current month, plus the following month’s lessons. From then on, you will pay a monthly direct debit.
All our swimming lessons last for 30 minutes. Lessons are planned in advance and divided into a number of fun activities for the swimmers. This ensures that children are given a variety of exercises to enjoy and a chance to learn for themselves.
The lesson sections include:
The lesson will often be tailored to meet any specific needs of the individual swimmers on the day. Your swimming instructor may identify key areas for improvement in that lesson and adapt the programme to reflect this.
Playtime is an essential part of the lessons, providing a chance for young learners to enjoy the water, socialise and, under supervision, practise some of the activities by themselves.

We deliberately keep class sizes small so that we can give our swimmers individual attention every lesson. Our maximum class size is 6 for all lessons up to grade 5; grade 6 and 7 classes may have up to 8 swimmers per session.
Anyone entering the water should be clear of infectious diseases such as diarrhoea, conjunctivitis, or a heavy cold. Open cuts and scrapes should be covered with waterproof plasters. Children with earache should not swim.
If you or your child has suffered from a stomach bug or virus, please wait two days after the first solid movement before joining your swimming lessons.
We ask about you and your child’s general health in our registration process. This is to ensure we are aware of your requirements and to ensure that the warm water temperature of the hydrotherapy pool is suitable for all swimmers. All information is kept confidential.
If you have any queries about illness and swimming, please consult your GP.

For beginners and and preschool swimmers aged 2 to 4 years old, goggles are not necessary. Our aim is for children to feel the water on their faces and be comfortable with splashing. This is all part of building water confidence and is essential to your child’s swimming development.
Once your child is comfortable with putting their face in the water, we can introduce goggles gradually. If introduced too early, googles can be relied upon and a child’s water confidence may be affected.
Once your instructor has discussed the option of wearing goggles, they will give you activities and games you can play together so that your child becomes comfortable in the water with or without their goggles.

Private lessons
We are happy to offer private lessons to anyone aged 4 years and over. We do not provide private swimming lessons for preschool-aged children.
Private lessons are paid for the same as other lessons, through your secure Swimphony account. However, these are charged in six-week blocks, as opposed to monthly.
Like our regular swimming lessons, private lessons run for 30 minutes each.
Yes, you can book our private swimming lessons as either 1:1 (1 teacher, 1 student) or 1:2 (1 teacher, 2 students) sessions. They are charged at the same rate, so if you swim with a friend, you will save money.
